|
|
Before I go out for the bears/cardinals monday night game, I thought I'd mess around with the ds-x a little bit, just enough to get some cool things out of the way.. so here's a few notes.. take them for what its worth.. really initial impressions of the hardware.. more to follow tomorrow.
1- one thing I like is when i'm playing mp3's.. i can close the ds lite and it still plays... pretty nice, some other carts don't do that, its annoying when they don't.. but the ds-x does, great times. (use headphones for better sound)
2- for organization sakes, I normally keep my medias separated as much as I possibly can.. lets say, for example, you have mp3s.. I put mine into folders like mp3s, then subdirs like mp3s a-p, mp3s q-z. Well, the cool thing about the ds-x is when you load up the media players, (either apps or music), it'll build a library by searching the entire card for your media. So if you have a directory called mp3 with 50 subdirectories, no matter... the ds-x will search them all and build your list of mp3s for you to easily choose from. Pretty freaking awesome.
3- a neat feature is that the DS-X has 2 leds on it, (checkout the other thread with pics).. and you can change their colors based on RGB (red green blue) combinations.. pretty pointless, but cool nonetheless.. I like blue myself
4- cough 'no patching' cough .. that concept is true
5 -the ds-x is stated to be a passme device ... I haven't been able to get this concept to work on the m3/sc yet.. works fine on the EZ4 LITE.. People have confirmed the SC's to work with the ds-x passthru feature, M3 is up in the air still.. stay tuned
6- you get the mini usb cable with the package, very nice.. they give you everything you need to get started minus the pc and ds
7- the menu looks nice, its touch screen, very sleek, and it already has some cool skins you can use.
8- loading times are pretty darn fast, as fast/if not faster than g6 lite..
9- your backups have icons next to them.. kind of neat, you'll see a mario next to 'new super mario bros'.. (note i said backups.. make sure you own the games you have backups for.. OK) _________________ great prices, great products, great service

SO did some more rugged testing of some of the basic features of the ds-x, here we go...
- most people are asking about the 'IPOD' like features.. (i.e. how long will it play music, can it play music while closed, etc).. Tested it out tonight.. with both LEDS disabled, played music on a fully charged battery for 5.5-6 hours. I had a headphone set plugged in and the volume cranked to full.. Not bad at all, seems like little or no drain of the cart on the ds lite's battery
- ran DS Organize and it ran beautifully.... all aspects of the software seemed to work properly.
- tested the ds-x with music and blinking LEDS and got around 4.5-5 hours.. significantly lower than the 5.5-6 hours on a NO LED setup... then again, why the hell would you have leds blinking (rather, dancing).. while listening to music.. but hey, more power to you
- the .sav files for backups seem to drop to the same dir as the backups.... moving them causes them not to be 'recognized'... neat, cool? who knows.. its just the directory organization. I had my backups in a folder called 'backups'.. and yet it still put the saves in another dir..
- plugging the usb cable into the ds-x and turning the ds lite on (with ds-x in the slot) causes the ds lite to hang.. no biggie, just don't plug your ds-x into the ds with the usb cable still intact
will be trying moonshell and the other apps tomorrow.. and we'll go from there _________________ great prices, great products, great service

I've got some questions: Not sure these are best asked here, but here goes.
Do you have stock of this item? If so, when are they shipping?
Are you going to continue your review, or is it basically done?
People in the DS-X forums are saying that their DS-X carts will be shipping out tomorrow (Specifically in the case of modchipstore.com)... are you guys with the same batch? (Guessing, as you're both located in Chicago.) |

Hi there,
http://www.modchipman.com/the-dsx-product-review-and-opinions-p-1515.html
thats a better review, with some more details
item isnt in stock, should be in stock early next week.. preorders are almost entirely full, so the people who have preordered earlier, will get them first.. people who just preordered maybe, today.. would be on the fence for early/later shipment.
